What is a transformer ?
A transformer is used to transform electricity by lowering and/or regulating the voltage. Indeed, it will receive electricity from the nuclear power plant at 400,000 volts and will then redistribute it. To do this, the transformer will regulate the electricity in order to distribute it at the right voltage. Thus, the transformer will heat up.
Therefore, it will be immersed in dielectric oil which will act as an insulating. The oil is used to dissipate the heat from the circuit. However, after a while, the oil must be cleaned. Indeed, residues can be integrated in the oil. Thus, the oil must be removed and filtered. This is where our oil storage tank comes in. First, the oil is filtered between the transformer and the pillow tank. Then a second time, when it will be reinjected in the transformer.

What is an oil storage tank ?
Our oil storage tank is the ideal solution for temporary or permanent storage of dielectric oil. It is made from technical fabrics coated with elastomer, which are particularly suitable for oil storage. These fabrics are also resistant to extreme weather conditions.
This oil storage tank ranges from 1 to 300 m3. For this project, we provided our client with 2 oil storage tanks : one with a 25m3 capacity and an other with a 50m3 capacity.
In addition of the products, we provided them with:
- Repair kit
- Ground sheet
- Cover to protect the tank from sunlights
Why use an oil storage tank ?
The pillow tank has many advantages, especially for the maintenance of transformers and oil filtration. Indeed, this maintenance is not done on a regular basis. Therefore, a rigid tank next to each transformer is not useful and a waste of money.
Our flexible tank is mobile. It is easily transportable and does not require a building permit. Therefore, we can move it and use it for different transformers.
Conclusion
We also took the time with the company to explain to them how to install and use the tank. Our Project & Service Engineer, Guna, came to the site to help and train our customer on the installation.
Our pillow tank is the ideal solution for transformer oil filtration operations. Moreover, for transport to remote sites, we have oil storage tanks dedicated to transport in containers (LCI) or on trays (Dynamic).
