Industrial manufacturers use conveyors to assemble and carry all kinds of pieces during the production process line. In that case, a trains’seat manufacturer, used a roller conveyor for its production process line.
The aim was to slow down the conveyor line without stopping it, in order to get the production line more efficient. The customer has searched a braking solution to brake roller conveyor.
The first idea was to use cylinder rods. Unfortunately, the dimensions didn’t suit, it was too tall. Due to their big size, the cylinder rods couldn’t be inserted.
Moreover, there was not enough contact area in order to lift the rollers without warping them. Roller lifting would have been possible only with 3 cylinder rods in order to divide the force upon all the length. Finally last constraints with rod cylinder the customer would have to settle a lubricated air network.
The right solution must follow those elements :
- be thin,
- no need to maintain regularly the product in order not to stop product line,
- and get a large contact surface to get regular and steady lifting without warping.
Pronal’s solution: lifting bag
Our engineering team has proposed 2 inflatable bags that suit all customer’s constraints. Those 2 lifting bags will be used to slow down each roller.
In fact, Pronal has provided a dozen of lifting bag with those characteristics:
- dimensions 120 x 120 mm
- pressure : 2 bar – 29 PSI
- Stroke : 30 mm
- fabric: rubber material
- air supply on edge.
Contrary to the rod cylinder, pneumatic lifting bags don’t need to be check and maintain regularly. as they aren’t fixed the can be removed easily.
Pronal lifting bags are thinner, more compact and provide more strength for braking rollers.
Thanks to this system to brake roller conveyor, our customer has improved his production line’s efficiency. Furthermore, he has saved money cause the doesn’t need to maintain lifting bags.
